University of Detroit Mercy summer engineering camp for high school girls

The Summer Technology Engineering Preview Summer camp for girls (STEPS Camp) is a five-day residential program for girls designed to (1) introduce young women to manufacturing, engineering, science, and robotics; (2) increase their interest in a career in one of these areas; (3) provide them with a positive university experience; (4) provide exposure to college professors and students; (5) improve their perception of engineering. The camp integrates a variety of activities for the campers – academic and social. The main project is robotics. The 2008 camp will use the LEGO Mindstorm NXT system and include a variety of academic labs — Batteries, Programming, Sensors, Circuits, Welding, Machine Shop, Casting, and Motors. Students may select between two one-week sessions — June 15-20 or 22-27.
