The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute invites Hispanic college students to apply for the 2008 Ford Motor Company CHLI Leadership Program. Download the 2008 applications here. Eight undergraduate students will be selected to become part of this exciting sixweek internship program in Washington, DC. The interns will be placed with Members of Congress from various states who share the goals of the Institute.
The Ford Motor Company CHLI Leadership Program offers invaluable insight to Hispanic students who want to gain first-hand experience on how the federal government works and public policy is shaped. The interns will also have the opportunity to interact and meet appointed and elected officials from all levels of government.
The application deadline is Friday, February 29, 2008. The program begins June 16 and ends July 25, 2008.
To apply, applicants must:
Be U.S. citizens or Legal Permanent Residents of Hispanic or Portuguese origin.
Be enrolled in an accredited four year college/university or two year community college.
Submit a completed application form, personal statement, legislative analysis, resume, two letters of recommendation and official transcripts.
Compensation:
Air fare and housing accommodations during Washington, D.C. stay.
$2,000 stipend.
Metro card provided.

The HSF/ Ford Motor Company Scholarship Program is designed to assist graduating high school seniors of Hispanic heritage nationwide obtain a bachelor's degree. This is a one time award in the amount of $2,500 to be disbursed in Fall 2008.

Such opportunities enabled one Ford PAS student to apply for and obtain a business and marketing internship at the University of Northwestern Ohio during her junior year. The Summer Technology Engineering Preview Summer camp for girls (STEPS Camp) is a five-day residential program for girls designed to (1) introduce young women to manufacturing, engineering, science, and robotics; (2) increase their interest in a career in one of these areas; (3) provide them with a positive university experience; (4) provide exposure to college professors and students; (5) improve their perception of engineering. The camp integrates a variety of activities for the campers – academic and social. The main project is robotics. The 2008 camp will use the LEGO Mindstorm NXT system and include a variety of academic labs — Batteries, Programming, Sensors, Circuits, Welding, Machine Shop, Casting, and Motors. Students may select between two one-week sessions — June 15-20 or 22-27.

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Ford PAS Scholarship (3 available) and Henry Ford Academy Scholarship (1 available) are now accepting applications. If you are, or have been a Ford PAS student and are applying to college this year to pursue a degree in technology or engineering, now is the time to apply for a $10,000 scholarship! Scholarship recipients can attend any accredited college or university in the United States.
Criteria for SME Ford PAS Scholarship Applicants
-All scholarship applicants must be a past or present student of a Ford PAS program at their high school or in a Ford PAS after-school/ weekend/ summer/ college program.
-All applicants must be seeking a bachelor/associate degree in engineering or technology at an accredited college or university in the United States.
-All applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. Annual renewal will require a minimum GPA of 3.0.
-Two letters of reference are required; one must come from a Ford PAS instructor.
-Preference is given to those students who attend a Ford PAS Program partner school or university.
The application deadline for the SME Ford PAS Scholarship is February 1, 2008.

The Ford Partnership for Advanced Studies (Ford PAS) Scholarship was developed by the Ford Motor Company Fund, as part of its efforts to encourage high school students to pursue their education and build successful careers in business, engineering, and technology. This annual scholarship is provided by Ford Motor Company to high school seniors who are a past or present student of a Ford PAS program at their high school or in a Ford PAS after-school/weekend/summer/college program. This scholarship is in support of the SAE Foundation to ensure an adequate supply of well-trained engineers for the future.
Student Eligibility:
All applicants must be current high school seniors, seeking to pursue a bachelor/associate degree in engineering or technology, and planning to attend an accredited college or university in the United States in the fall of 2008. A 3.0 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale is required. Two letters of reference are required; one must come from a Ford PAS instructor. The student must be a past or present student of a Ford PAS program at their high school or in a Ford PAS after-school/ weekend/ summer/ college program.
Terms:
One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded in the freshman year only.
